Dortell created the academic sector of the Men for Honor Academic Group in 2007 and held various positions on the executive body for the ten years MFH was in operation. During that time he conducted peer-to-peer instruction on victim orientation, victim sensitivity, parenting, creative writing, workforce development, and domestic violence. Dortell also created the Caring for Others Project that collected and donated $15,000 to various charities. At it’s height, MFH offered 19 different cognitive behavioral intervention classes, with over 100 participants a month, 25 Pier instructors and assistants, and another 25 members. The group also conducted parole board preparation for individuals that resulted in a 60% success rate.

California State Prison, Los Angeles County CSULA Graduation Ceremony – October 5, 2021

On Oct. 5, 25 incarcerated students at California State Prison, Los Angeles County (LAC) received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cal State Los Angeles. The event marks a major milestone for correctional education – the first time a four-year degree is conferred to incarcerated students from a public university in California. Dortell was the graduation speaker on behalf of Cohort 1.
